The Specktator is thrilled to have European Street Cafe as title sponsor of the online calendar!
As one of my favorite places to eat, drink and socialize in the the city, “E. Street” (as the cool kids call it) makes the perfect partner to help promote the best events happening in the city.
NOTE: This is a “curated calendar,” meaning I have personally reviewed each event and consider it to be of interest to the general public and/or something particularly compelling. It is important to know that businesses cannot buy a calendar entry. That said, if you have an event you would like considered for the calendar or a $pon$ored feature, send the pertinent information to firstname.lastname@example.org.
And by the way, be sure to change the view from “month” to “stream” below. Unless you like being really annoyed.

The dramatic and moving Sinfonia da Requiem is an amazing masterpiece from Britten’s early years. Shortly before, he had hoped to study with Alban Berg, whose beloved Violin Concerto is played by the masterful British violinist Anthony Marwood. And Elgar’s opulent, deeply moving First Symphony is possibly the greatest symphony ever written by an Englishman.
It was a vision of musical stardom as a Detroit teen that inspired Mary Wilson, along with Diana Ross and Florence Ballard, to found one of the most successful female singing groups in recording history – The Supremes. Since then, Wilson has written a best-selling autobiography, performed on stage and screen, lectured and toured the world, and continues to be looked up to as a singer who set the standard for females in the recording industry.
Grammy Award-winning jazz pianist and singer, Diana Krall is the only artist to have eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Album chart. She is touring in support of her latest release Turn Up The Quiet.

The Langston Hughes Project is a multimedia concert performance of Langston Hughes’ kaleidoscopic jazz poem suite. Ask Your Mama is Hughes’s homage in verse and music to the struggle for artistic and social freedom, home and abroad, at the beginning of the 1960s. It is a twelve-part epic poem which Hughes scored with musical cues drawn from blues and Dixieland, gospel songs, boogie woogie, bebop and progressive jazz, Latin “cha cha” and Afro-Cuban mambo music, German lieder, Jewish liturgy, West Indian calypso, and African drumming — a creative masterwork left unperformed at his death.
Formed in 1987 by singer/harmonica player John Popper, guitarist Chan Kinchla, bassist Bobby Sheehan, and drummer Brendan Hill, Blues Traveler began as part of a revival of the extended jamming style of ’60s and ’70s groups like the Grateful Dead and Led Zeppelin. Bassist Tad Kinchla and keyboardist Ben Wilson joined the band after the unfortunate death of the original bassist Bobby Sheehan in 1999.
The group’s first chart hit, “Run-Around,” became one of the biggest singles in 1995. The group’s other hits include “But Anyway,” “Crash and Burn,” “Hook,” and “Carolina Blues.”
The band’s music style covers a variety of genres, including blues rock, psychedelic rock, folk rock, soul and Southern rock and are best known among fans for their improvisational live shows.
A television favorite, they have been featured on Saturday Night Live, Austin City Limits, VH1’s Behind the Music and they hold the record for most appearances of any artist on The Late Show with David Letterman.

Eight-member jazz ensemble, The Hot Sardines play 1920s and 30s music influenced by swing and blues. Their songs “Gramercy Sunset,” “Sweet Pea,” and “Some of These Days” highlight the band’s brassy horn arrangements, piano melodies and sultry vocals.
Their self-titled album debuted in the top 10 on the Billboard Jazz Chart. Their latest release, French Fries and Champagne, features lyrics in both French and English, and a remake of Robert Palmer’s “Addicted To Love.”
Inspired by jazz greats Dinah Washington, Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday, The Hot Sardines were formed in 2007 after lead singer/washboard player Miz Elizabeth met pianist Evan Palazzo. They grew into a full-fledged group after adding trumpeter Jason Prover, percussionist Alex Raderman, clarinetist/saxophonist Nick Myers, bassist/sousaphonist Evan Crane and tap dancer Edwin Francisco to line up.
The Hot Sardines have been featured at the Newport Jazz Festival and the Montreal Jazz Festival and have sold out NYC venues from Joe’s Pub to Bowery Ballroom.
