The Specktator is thrilled to have European Street Cafe as title sponsor of the online calendar!
As one of my favorite places to eat, drink and socialize in the the city, “E. Street” (as the cool kids call it) makes the perfect partner to help promote the best events happening in the city.
NOTE: This is a “curated calendar,” meaning I have personally reviewed each event and consider it to be of interest to the general public and/or something particularly compelling. It is important to know that businesses cannot buy a calendar entry. That said, if you have an event you would like considered for the calendar, send the pertinent information to whatsup@thespecktator.com.
And by the way, be sure to change the view from “month” to “stream” below. Unless you like being really annoyed.
From event organizer:
The Downtown Community Cleanup Project will invite every neighborhood organization and cleanup group in the city of Jacksonville to come together for LaVilla. If you’ve been asked to host this event, please accept it and help spread the word. We need as much help as we can get.
The Downtown Community Cleanup Project and the Fight Blight crew will provide enough trash bags, gloves, and tools for everyone, but feel free to bring your own.
Downtown Vision, Inc.’s amazing staff has Volunteered to help out on their day off! (((ROUND OF APPLA– USE))) I* will post photos of problem areas leading up to the event with a location so feel free to prepare for those specific areas (some need shovels and rakes) or just bring yourself, and we’ll tell you where to go.
From 9 AM – 4 PM every group in the DIA will meet at Lavilla’s United Voice at 311 W. Ashley St. From there we will focus on rehabilitating State and Union St and moving to adjacent designated neighborhoods. There are thousands of pounds of trash that needs to be removed. Together, it’s nothing.
In fact, I* bet we can move at least 2,500 pounds of trash in one Saturday.

* Not sure who this “I” is. It’s not me.
From event organizer:
Starting Sunday November 12th Dos Gatos and Creative Veins Performing Arts are bringing you hilarious original comedy from across the country! The show is free so get there early.

It’s been almost six months since European Street Cafe—San Marco drowned as a result of Hurricane Irma. Fortunately, insurance covered the $650,000 in property damage, but I think we can all agree, NO amount of money can replace the hours of fellowship and knowledge we lost through the absence of Thursday Trivia With The Specktator.
But we are back now, baby—and with the title of Best Local Trivia Night in Folio Weekly’s Best of Jax Readers Polls 2017 to boot!
Beginning Thursday, March 1, Thursday Trivia With The Specktator returns … but at a new time: 7 p.m.! (In a related story, all E. Street locations now close at 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday.)
To show I have no hard feelings, I will buy dinner for anyone named “Irma” who plays trivia on March 1. (Government-issued ID required for proof of name. Sorry. I have trust issues.)
Until then, my friends, brush up on your Guinness World Records (did you REALLY think I’d forget?) and work on your moves for the return of the 30-Second Dance Party!
And don’t forget to check The Specktator page the day of for a free answer.

They had me at “free Irish stew.”
Are you interested in having me be a part of your event? Let’s get in touch and discuss the details to see how I can get involved to help out!
