The Specktator is thrilled to have European Street Cafe as title sponsor of the online calendar!
As one of my favorite places to eat, drink and socialize in the the city, “E. Street” (as the cool kids call it) makes the perfect partner to help promote the best events happening in the city.
NOTE: This is a “curated calendar,” meaning I have personally reviewed each event and consider it to be of interest to the general public and/or something particularly compelling. It is important to know that businesses cannot buy a calendar entry. That said, if you have an event you would like considered for the calendar or a $pon$ored feature, send the pertinent information to firstname.lastname@example.org.
And by the way, be sure to change the view from “month” to “stream” below. Unless you like being really annoyed.
Jacksonville, FL – Catholic Charities’ Annual Black & White Ball will be held March 3rd at US Assure Club in EverBank Field. The event serves as one of the primary fundraisers for Catholic Charities Jacksonville Regional Office of the Diocese of St. Augustine, with proceeds assisting the agency in reaching out to the community with emergency assistance.
The event will feature gourmet food, dancing and fun for guests. The Faze Band will be providing music for guests to enjoy throughout the evening.
Kendra Scott Jewelry will be offering a Jewelry Pull to support the event. A full list of participating sponsors can be found on the Catholic Charities website, www.ccbjaxevents.org.
Catholic Charities Jacksonville provides five major programs, including Emergency Assistance. They are the largest provider of emergency financial assistance in our community.
The goal of the Emergency Assistance program is to prevent homelessness by helping families who are facing eviction or the loss of utilities due to a recent financial crisis. Short-term assistance with rent, mortgage payments, utilities, and food is provided. All proceeds raised by the Black & White Ball will support those efforts.
Last year, the Emergency Assistance program served 13,459 individuals, and distributed 135,951 pounds of food to those in need in the community.
Tickets to this event are $200 for guests. Sponsorships are still available and run from $1,000 to $20,000. Please call Nicola Barnack at (904) 899-5505 or visit www.ccbjax.org for more information.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online athttps://904tix.com/events/
The Root Ball is a benefit for Greenscape of Jacksonville, produced by The Late Bloomers Garden Club.
Tying the event in with St. Patrick’s Day will add another level of fun, Dooley says. Irish musician/songwriter (and Jacksonville transplant) Brendan Doherty, will perform traditional Irish songs as well as original songs from his last album, “Feels Like Home,” which Irish Music Magazine’s Seán Laffey said, “If you need a label to describe his style, think John Denver at his very best.” Doherty will be accompanied on fiddle by Philip Pan, former concertmaster for the Jacksonville Symphony and member of Canary in a Coalmine. Pan currently performs with folk/rock band Folk is People and Mariachi Primera Costa.
The festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails, festive food, music, dancing and a silent auction featuring a variety of original artwork, fine wines, gift baskets, a putter autographed by Arnold Palmer and a catered yacht cruise on Innisfail, an impeccably restored 1930 Mathis-Trumpy motor yacht that hosted several U.S. presidents.
Attire is “green casual.”
Phoenix Arts District hosts a weekend to celebrate the beginning of a new art movement in Jacksonville, including an epic Bobby K Fashion Show, dance party, live murals and raffles.
Learn about plans for the future of this over 100,000 sq ft facility slated to house community event space, cafe, restaurant, gallery, live/work artist studios, workshops and classes for all ages in varying art forms.
The party continues Sunday with a free, family-friendly block party hosting art and food vendors as well as live demos from local artists. Watch, learn and even participate in making your own art to take home.
The Jacksonville Lantern Parade presented by Vystar Credit Union will be a glowing procession of light, color and music that will illuminate the city skyline and the St. Johns River. A combination temporary art installation and family friendly celebration, the parade will shine a light on the creative and kind heart of our beautiful city. A similar event held annually in Atlanta brings together more than 60,000 people each fall.
Help us create a new tradition here in Northeast Florida by launching an awe-inspiring spectacle of art, light, sound and expression.
The parade will feature at least four drum lines and marching bands including the Jaguars D-Line, Still I Stand SIS, the UF Truck Band and Junco Royals. DJs will be playing music at the start and end points. And the iHeartMedia KISS FM remote broadcast tent will be set up at the mid-point.
The event will also feature a variety of activities for kids and families—including food and drinks and more. Don’t say goodnight until you visit at least one of the three Lantern Parade photo booths. In addition, our mini-camper photo booth will be parked near the parade starting point and the Jax Mag Selfie Stand will be set up near the midway point. Finally 904 Happy Hour will be shooting photos of parade participants at the ending, at Hogan Street where it meets the river.
The glowing display of color will literally shine a light on the heart of Jacksonville and everyone is invited! Participation is free to the public. All we ask is that each participant carry something that GLOWS, TWINKLES, or SHINES. Bring either a homemade creation or a store bought item, we don’t mind so long as you participate in the grand illumination.
