Events

The Specktator is thrilled to have European Street Cafe as title sponsor of the online calendar!

As one of my favorite places to eat, drink and socialize in the the city, “E. Street” (as the cool kids call it) makes the perfect partner to help promote the best events happening in the city.

NOTE: This is a “curated calendar,” meaning I have personally reviewed each event and consider it to be of interest to the general public and/or something particularly compelling. It is important to know that businesses cannot buy a calendar entry. That said, if you have an event you would like considered for the calendar, send the pertinent information to whatsup@thespecktator.com.

And by the way, be sure to change the view from “month” to “stream” below. Unless you like being really annoyed.

Dogtoberfest @ Sea Walk Pavilion | Jacksonville Beach | Florida | United States

As part of the Jacksonville Beach Oktoberfest, Dogtoberfest includes a dog costume contest, pet-related vendors and activities, and representatives from local shelters and rescues with adoptable pets.

Personally, I would have named the event “Kibbles and Wits.”

FUN FACT: “Wit” is short for “Witbier,” a Belgian-style ale.

Oktoberfest at European Street Cafe Riverside @ European Street Cafe Riverside | Jacksonville | Florida | United States

European Street’s annual Oktoberfest party in the parking lot features all your favorite things about Oktoberfest, namely: beer, gigantic pretzels, beer, stein hoisting contests, beer, Monster German Wieners, beer, live oompa music, beer, sauerkraut, beer, German potato salad, beer, Menschen in lederhosen and Alpine Bavarian hats, beer, Frauen in dirndls, beer and, of course, beer.

FUN FACT: The Prince Andrew Hero (grilled chicken breast, bacon, cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomatoes with E. Street classic sauce) is named for one of the restaurants’ owners Andy.

German Schnitzel Haus Oktoberfest
Oct 17 @ 11:30 am
German Schnitzel Haus Oktoberfest

If you’re going to celebrate a German event, you might as well do so at the German-est place in town—German Schnitzel Haus (I mean, “German” is right there in the name of the restaurant!)—which they’ve been celebrating Oktoberfest every weekend since Sept. 19.

Every Saturday through Oct. 24, Bierliebhabers and Feinschmeckers will be flocking to the Oktoberfest festival tent for beer, wine and a buffet including German Stroganoff, Goulash, Spatzle, Bratkartoffeln, along with live oompah music. And I’m über positive there will be some chicken dancing going on, as well.

The full restaurant menu is available inside the restaurant only. Reservations are recommended.

FUN FACT: LeVar Burton, Bruce Willis and Nicole Brown Simpson were born in Germany.

Beaches Oktoberfest @ Jacksonville Beach Sea Walk Pavilion
Oct 17 @ 12:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Beaches Oktoberfest @ Jacksonville Beach Sea Walk Pavilion | Jacksonville Beach | Florida | United States

The Beaches Oktoberfest is said to be North Florida’s Oktoberfest, which, I assume, can only mean it’s also the biggest Pukefest. Anyhoo …

The three-day event includes live entertainment, a food truck village, Dogtoberfest, Craft-Toberfest and Kinderzone. It also offers a beach front view, which I’m pretty sure no other Oktoberfest can make that claim in these parts.

FUN FACT: There is a brewery in New Jersey called Sand City Brewing Co.

Little Big Town @ St. Augustine Amphitheatre

Little Big Town @ St. Augustine Amphitheatre | Saint Augustine | Florida | United States

From staugustineamphitheatre.com (because why reinvent the wheel?)

Hot on the heels of their wildly successful album Tornado, Little Big Town’s prescription for continued success and creative drive is in their sixth album, Pain Killer. The two years since Tornado’s release have proven to be the most formative and motivational for the inspired family of artists, together since 1998. In the short time since Tornado, Little Big Town earned two number one radio hits with Tornado and Pontoon, a GRAMMY, two Academy of County Music and three Country Music Association awards and an Emmy. They also found time to headline a sold-out tour, join Keith Urban across North America and host the CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock twice.

Opening acts are Drake White and the Big Fire Event.

NOT-SO-FUN FACT: Jacksonville’s “Great Fire of 1901” was considered one of the worst disasters in Florida history and the third largest urban fire.
